Expectations operate as “action theories”; they act as an internal compass to direct the thinking processes in the classroom. Teachers’ expectations of thinking, made explicit through routines can scaffold students’ thinking and promote in-depth understanding of issues.
In this interactive workshop, participants will be introduced to Thinking Routines used to achieve specific types of thinking. In addition, Powerful Questioning will be introduced so that participants can be equipped with questioning techniques to induce the critical thinking skills of students. At the end of the workshop, teachers will take away practical questioning strategies that they can use to motivate students to think critically and creatively at all times.
