In this interactive workshop, teachers will learn how to maximise their students’ learning abilities by capitalising on two important facts about the brain. First, the plasticity of the brain – which has an amazing ability to continuously reorganise itself on a moment-to-moment basis depending on the stimuli it is exposed to. This means that for every second that a student spends in the classroom, teachers have an invaluable opportunity to stimulate brain growth.

Second, the brain is designed to process, remember and recall certain kinds of information more than others. By knowing how to make information more brain-friendly, teachers will be able to plan their lesson enactment and align their teaching to the way students’ brains learn best.

In this experiential workshop, teachers will learn the six principles of brain-friendly teaching. They will also pick up specific and easy-to-implement classroom strategies that can be used immediately to boost attention, learning and achievement among students. These purposeful strategies can help to increase knowledge retention. Teachers will learn how to use structured peer discussions to encourage their students to verbalise their learning. With the resulting increase in self-esteem, students will become more intrinsically motivated to learn.

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • null
Use learning strategies which incorporate the six principles of brain-friendly teaching
  • null
Create a safe learning environment for students to interact with one another
  • null
Identify strategies that calm the brain and free up working memory
